Not all life changes shake us to the core, but when a transition forces us to redefine who we are, everything changes.
I talk about this in my next video (click on picture below)

In this episode, we explore why some life changes barely scratch the surface, while others trigger radical, psychological identity shifts. Using the foundational research of American academic Russell W. Belk, we unpack the concept of the “Extended Self”—the invisible threads that connect our internal identity to our physical bodies, our loved ones, our personal belongings, and our environments.
Drawing from academic theory, my personal journey as an immigrant to Canada, and the traumatic realities of forced displacement, we explore the profound duality of identity destruction and reconstruction. Explore what happens when our external world is stripped away, and learn how we can intentionally rebuild ourselves piece by piece.
I’d love to hear from you in the comments:
– Do you know who or what is included in your extended self right now? – Are you currently navigating an identity destruction, or are you fully immersed in reconstructing your new self?
